About Me
Hi, I’m Shannon — the owner and heart behind Quilting Momma.
I began quilting when my oldest son, Matthew, was just a few years old. I honestly can’t remember what made me buy a sewing machine for the first time, but I’m so grateful I did. My quilting journey truly began with a beginner class at People, Places & Quilts in Charleston, SC. I had an amazing time—and of course, I walked out with a quilt I was proud of.
Crafting has always been a part of my life. As a child, my grandmother taught me to cross stitch, and I still pick it up from time to time because it brings back such meaningful memories. Over the years I’ve tried many different crafts, but sewing and quilting have been the ones that stayed with me.
There’s just something magical about watching pieces of fabric transform into something beautiful. It’s faster than cross stitch and incredibly rewarding to hold something handmade that started as an idea. After that first quilt, I was hooked—I made bags, burp cloths, clothes, even a Halloween costume for Matthew! I started attending quilt shows, joined local quilt guilds, and fell in love with the community and the creative energy.
In 2016, that passion led me to open my own quilting business. I was ordering fabric, preparing my shop, and traveling to quilt shows as a vendor… and then COVID hit. Because I wasn’t set up online, the business slowly faded and I eventually had to step back. But I missed the quilting community deeply, and once life returned to normal, I knew I wanted to bring Quilting Momma back to life. So here I am—starting fresh, and more excited than ever.
My dream is to share the joy and creativity of quilting by building a welcoming community of quilters around the world. Whether you’re stitching your very first block or showcasing your hundredth quilt, I want this to be a place where we can share our projects, inspire one another, and celebrate all things handmade—quilts, sewing, or anything creative.
